To know where you can optimally locate a new hotspot miner, you need a coverage map. Basically, people buy a gateway, or hotspot, that will connect devices to the internet, and then they get paid in HNT for providing this service. But one important aspect to understand is that the system works by incentivizing people to provide network coverage, the concensus mechanism is called PoC, or Proof of Coverage. There are many articles that a simple Google search will provide for you about the project. I won’t get into the entire Helium project here. But better yet, anyone can participate and track their own assets (like their dog) or get information about the state of things they want to measure (did I get a water leak?). Even the crypto hating NYT agrees, with a snide article (that doesn’t recognize that a financial, monetary solution that is inclusive of everyone on the planet is, in fact, an amazing use case for blockchain) that discusses how Helium is a “real” project with “real” uses.Īnd it is! Helium is already used by businesses to track their inventory and assets. It has all the elements of something that is clearly useful (and maybe even fun to participate in). ![]() Helium, a really great cryptocurrency project, that looks to bring extremely low cost networking to the masses, is one of my favorite blockchain based projects.
